Falcon Flying

He rose like a plume of smoke to the sky

He slashed the air like a ray of light

My spirit rose as if to join him

In my mind’s eye I too took flight

I left these leaden legs behind me

I left the troubles of my day

I felt my weight dispel like a shadow

The earth beneath me slipped away

Take me above the misty hills – falcon flying

Take me with you soaring along the shore

I see the sky spread out before us now

The wind will carry us forevermore

You get raised up on freedom stories

While others shape the meaning of the term

It’s unbound height and streaking glory

Untethered flight for which I yearn

As I saw him taking wing there

I felt that same unspoken want

We ascended heaven’s highest haunts
